We are Carey Group, a public practice accounting firm in Queensland, providing external accounting, corporate services, business advisory, auditing, financial planning, and self-managed superannuation services.

Our history began in 1951 when Brian Carey joined Larry Kelly's accounting practice in Ingham. Over time, Brian and his sons expanded the firm's services and in 2002, they opened the Townsville Office and introduced Financial Planning and SMSF Administration. The company operated under different names until it became the Carey Group in 2016.

We now have an exciting opportunity for mid-level public practice Accountants to join our Townsville Head Office.

The Role

As our newest Accountants, you will be providing service to a range of professional clients, including small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and agricultural businesses.

This is a diverse role where you will undertake a variety of tasks to assist these businesses with their accounts. Largely operating as an external accountant, you will provide financial statements, reconciliations, and tax assistance.

Working under one of our partners, you will get regular face time with your clients, be able to build relationships with them directly and take the credit for the work you do. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that supports each other to succeed across the entire Carey Group.

Your duties will include:

• Meeting with new and existing clients to take in the scope of work and provide updates;
• Preparing business financial statements, tax returns, and audits;
• Answering client queries in a timely manner;
• Working collaboratively to solve challenges and provide solutions to clients;
• Preparing personal tax advice and returns;
• Provide business advice and consulting services; and 
• Provide support to partners in Carey Group as needed.

About You

Joining our team, you will be an experienced public practice accountant, confident in end-of-month reconciliations and ledgers, profit and loss statements, payroll, tax and BAS, and able to easily produce ad hoc reports. You will also have experience with and an understanding of business and personal tax.

A team player, you will be passionate about collaborating, and able to work autonomously as well. Used to keeping track of your billable hours, you will be able to work to tight deadlines and meet KPIs. You will love meeting with clients, and value the relationships and care you can provide for them.

You will have:

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience in public practice accounting
• A minimum Bachelor’s of Accounting, Business, Commerce or equivalent
• Strong attention to detail and organisation
• Experience with Xero
• High-level communication and stakeholder negotiation skills
• Strong tax experience and knowledge 
• CA/CPA/CIMA membership or working towards
